ADC / DAC Conversion Module      

 
 

The ADC/DCA module offers an integrated solution for high-speed Analog to Digital data collections and Digital to Analogue data generation. The ADC/DCA  module includes ADC 1 channel (THS1206 : 12bit, 6MSPS/Channel, max 4 channel), DAC 4 channel (DAC904 : 14bit, 165MSPS) from Texas Instruments Inc. and CMOS Camera connector.

The ADC/DAC converter module can be connected to the expansion connector of the following Xilinx Virtex 4 based evaluation platforms:

V4IP-1000 (with two Virtex 4 LX60 FPGAs)

V4IP-500 (with one Virtex 4 LX60 FPGAs)

The THS1206 is a CMOS, low-power, 12-bit, 6 MSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The speed, resolution, bandwidth, and single-supply operation are suited for applications in radar, imaging, high-speed acquisition, and communications. A multistage pipelined architecture with output error correction logic provides for no missing codes over the full operating temperature range. Internal control registers are used to program the ADC into the desired ode. The THS1206 consists of four analog inputs, which are sampled simultaneously. These inputs can be selected individually and configured to single-ended or differential inputs. An integrated 16 word deep FIFO allows the storage of data in order to take the load off of the processor connected to the ADC. Internal reference voltages for the ADC (1.5 V and 3.5 V) are provided.

The DAC904 is a high-speed, Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) offering a 14-bit resolution option within the family of high performance converters. Featuring pin compatibility among family members, the DAC908, DAC900, and DAC902 provide a component selection option to an 8-, 10-, and 12-bit resolution, respectively. All models within this family of DACs support update rates in excess of 165MSPS with excellent dynamic performance, and are especially suited to fulfill the demands of a variety of applications. The advanced segmentation architecture of the DAC904 is optimized to provide a high Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) for single-tone, as well as for multi-tone signals—essential when used for the transmit signal path of communication systems.

The DAC904 has a high impedance (200kOhm) current output with a nominal range of 20mA and an output compliance of up to 1.25V.
